Organiser's Description
Taysha is the Caddo word for "friend" or "ally". Tejas is the Spanish spelling of the word. Taysha has lived on to become Texas.
Exclusively for and by Club Spinistry members. We are EXTREMELY excited to announce that the Red River to Rio Grande route has been officially verified end to end! The vast majority of this route utilizes unpaved public roads. Members who join this event page will receive updates for route information and events associated with this route. Additionally, we are seeking members' assistance, feedback and guidance in finalizing the route segments. Lots of stuff is in the works for this one so updates will happen regularly. Signup today so that you can be dialed in.
There are limited sections which require proper permission and authorization to access (such as Big Bend National Park). Details will be made available to Club Spinistry members once the final route is released.
As mapped it is 1012 miles long 36,500 feet of elevation gain. The route is complete as is but we are considering it a Beta version at this time. We will be offering some Club Spinistry adventures starting in Spring 2023 to optimize select segments and to document a practical amenities list for future adventurers.
The course is designed to be a living museum dedicated to the history, geography and culture of the region. It incorporates segments of the Comanche Trail, Butterflied Overland Route, Chisholm and Goodnight/Loving Cattle Trails, San Antonio Mail Line, the Texas Forts Trail as well as dozens of lesser known paths and trails of historical significance.
The geographic diversity includes Big Bend National Park, The Edwards Plateau, Texas Hill Country, Cross Timbers Forest and the Red River Valley/North Texas Hill Country. The route crosses the Red, Trinity, Brazos, Leon, Colorado, San Saba, Pecos and the Rio Grande Rivers. Several of those crossings will be "wheels wet".
We believe this route offers an unparalleled insight to the cultural impacts the region created for everyone from prehistoric humans to modern society. It is a truly eye opening experience that offers tangible exposure to the wonders seen and struggles faced by all peoples through the centuries.
We are excited to be able to share the results from several years of research, exploration and adventure. This one will be truly memorable for all who follow the paths.
