Although the Mike Spann Detachment has decided to discontinue the 5K run this year, their commitment to supporting local events continues. Runners who have registered will receive a full reimbursement of their fees, ensuring a smooth transition for all participants.
While the 5K may be concluding, don’t miss the opportunity to participate in the Tuscaloosa Gauntlet, taking place every April. This exciting USMC-themed event features an official obstacle course and promises to be a thrilling challenge for all fitness levels. The start and finish lines are located near the Buddy Powell Pavilion of Sokol Park, offering a fantastic setting for both competitors and spectators. To our runner friends and supporters
After discussion of personal and organizational factors, the Mike Spann Detachment members have opted to discontinue the annual 5K run. The reasons are several, including matters of personal health and time constraints on the part of the active membership, and changes in local community dynamics that impact our sponsorship of the activity. Its nothing bad. Rather, its just the way things evolve in life.
Runners who have already registered will receive reimbursement of their run fee. Those will be processed this week.
Moving forward the detachment Marines will be giving their support as volunteers to the Tuscaloosa Gauntlet. Occurring in April each year, the Gauntlet is a uniquely different, USMC themed event that includes an official USMC obstacle course.
The start and finish line of the Gauntlet occur near the Buddy Powell Pavilion of Sokol Park in Tuscaloosa. The Pavilion and the obstacle course are situated on Northridge Road, just past where Northridge Road intersects Ol Colony Road in Tuscaloosa. We encourage you to ride by and take a look!
We enjoyed the camaraderie with the runner community and many other friends we met as part of the endeavor! Thank you all for your 10+ years of support of the Mike Spann Detachment and the Tuscaloosa Marines Memorial Run. We appreciate each of you, and are indebted to you in the finest traditions of volunteerism and community in America.
