Join us for the VGLAX 2024 Nippes Memorial Virtual 5K on Saturday, November 30, 2024, in Little Falls, Passaic! This inspiring event honors the legacy of Coach Julie A. Nippes, a beloved figure in the Verona lacrosse community who passed away in August 2020. Participants can run, jog, or walk the 3.1-mile course virtually from any location, or join the Verona girls lacrosse team at the bocce courts at 11 am for a spirited in-person loop that passes the Nippes house, where we’ll celebrate Julie's memory with cheers and camaraderie.
Get ready to lace up your sneakers and make a difference! Funds raised will support the Verona High School Lacrosse Parents Association and contribute to a memorial scholarship in Coach Nippes' honor. Organiser's Description
This is a virtual race to raise money for the Verona High School Lacrosse Parents Association which directly supports the Verona High School girls lacrosse team. Funds raised for this challenge will be applied to a memorial scholarship in memory of Verona Coach. Julie A Nippes who recently passed away in August 2020. Coach Nippes wore number 27 when she played lacrosse.
Julie was a gifted athlete, a fierce competitor and a caring coach. She cared for people and got involved. She was passionate, kind and funny. You could always find Julie at one of the kids games, either cheering loudly or holding a clipboard with detailed drills that took her hours to look up. She was an unofficial nurse, always on the ready with a bandaid, a loose diagnosis or some encouraging words. Julie loved lacrosse and traditions old and new. For this reason the lacrosse team wants to run this challenge in her honor.
The goal for this race is 3.1 miles. Please follow us on Instagram verona_girls_lacrosse as we prepare for the race. The race is virtual BUT on Saturday November 30th anyone can join us to run/jog/walk the race in person. The girls lacrosse team will meet by the bocce courts at 11am and have a 3.1 miles loop informally mapped out with sidewalk chalk that will take us past the Nippes house where we will proudly hoot, hollar and maybe blow a whistle or two. All participants must submit their race completion time by midnight on 30 November 2024. Since this is a virtual race, you can complete it at any location. Run from your home, find a trail, a mountain, wherever you like. Be creative, please take a picture and tag us on insta so we can show everyone's love and support for Julie. Let's GO #27!
This virtual race is sponsored by Golden Eagle Races, which is a newly formed small business, owned and operated by a local Verona resident and currently serving military veteran. Golden Eagle Races will be donating a portion of the race proceeds directly back to the Verona High School Lacrosse Parents Association. HOOAH! Together, we can raise funds for VHSLPA and have some great fun and fitness at the same time.
