This exciting 5K fundraiser is dedicated to providing essential therapy for children with disabilities, ensuring they receive the speech, physical, and occupational therapy they need. The event kicks off at 7:30 AM, with the race starting at 8:30 AM. Families are welcome—children participating without needing to be timed can join for free, and strollers and scooters are encouraged!
Enjoy a day filled with community spirit as you run or walk alongside local vendors showcasing their goods, and let your little ones play on the playground. This heartfelt event was inspired by Walker’s journey with cerebral palsy, highlighting the challenges families face in accessing affordable therapy. JOIN US AT BRAZOS RIVER PARK FOR A TIMED RUN/WALK, SHOP FROM OUR LOCAL VENDORS, AND PLAY ON THE PLAYGROUND TO HELP BENEFIT CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES WHOSE FAMILIES ARE HAVING A HARD TIME GETTING THE SPEECH, PHYSICAL, AND OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY NEEDED DUE TO INSURANCE LIMITATIONS. THE WALK WITH WALKER IS A FUNDRAISER FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES TO RECEIVE THE THERAPY THEY NEED. THE WALK STARTED AS A WALK FOR WALKER WHILE OUR SON WAS IN THE HOSPITAL. WE RECEIVED SO MUCH LOVE AND SUPPORT THROUGH IT THAT TRULY TOUCHED OUR FAMILY. WALKER WAS DIAGNOSED WITH CEREBRAL PALSY AND GOES TO 3 HOURS OF THERAPY 3 DAYS A WEEK. HIS THERAPY CENTER HAS HELPED WALKER MEET MANY MILESTONES. OUR WEEKLY ROUTINE LOOKS VERY SIMILAR TO A LOT OF THOSE WITH CHILDREN OF DISABILITIES, AND IT HAS BECOME ABUNDANTLY CLEAR HOW HARD IT IS TO BATTLE INSURANCE FOR THE AMOUNT OF THERAPY NEEDED. THERAPY SESSIONS CAN START AT $125. IT ADDS UP FAST, BUT THE NEED REMAINS THE SAME. THIS AFFECTS THE LIVELIHOOD AND INDEPENDENCE OF CHILDREN. EARLY INTERVENTION IS CRUCIAL FOR THE BEST CHANCE OF SUCCESS, BUT MANY CANNOT AFFORD TO CONTINUE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET, SO HELP ME TO SUPPORT THOSE CHILDREN THROUGH SCHOLARSHIPS.
THE THERAPY CENTER WALKER ATTENDS TREATS CHILDREN OF VARIOUS DISABILITIES FROM ALL OVER THE HOUSTON AREA. THEY HAVE HELPED A COUNTLESS NUMBER OF CHILDREN ACHIEVE AMAZING GOALS OVER THOSE YEARS. MY SON IS ABLE TO WALK, COMMUNICATE, AND SUPPORT WITH HIS WEAKER ARM NOW THANKS TO THEM, AND I WANT TO HELP PROVIDE THE SAME OPPORTUNITY OF SUCCESS FOR OTHER CHILDREN. THE PROCEEDS WILL GO DIRECTLY TO THE CENTER TO BE ALLOCATED AS SCHOLARSHIPS TOWARDS THOSE WHO ARE HAVING A HARD TIME AFFORDING THERAPY.
