Organiser's Description
THIS IS NOT YOUR STANDARD GRAVEL RACE. ONLY THE MOST ADVENTUROUS CYCLISTS SHOULD APPLY.
SAFETY IS NOT GUARANTEED.
$1,500 in prize money will be awarded to winners, if they can set a new FKT (fastest known time). If the top times do not break the current FKT no money will be awarded.
* $1,000 for the fastest new FKT
* $500 for the second fastest new FKT
The route takes place on the national forest service roads and area surrounding Broken Bow Lake and Hochatown OK. These are very remote roads, some in pretty poor conditions and some that are phenomenal. All of them are picturesque and unique. If you're the kind of person who considers the worst road conditions as the best ones then this may be the event for you. There is a 2 mile section that will require traversing 20%+ grades both up and down and some minor wayfinding. Again, this is not a race for the roadies turned gravel aficionados.
Water Filtration is 100% a requirement. There are no refuel or resupply options on course except for the country store in Bethel OK, this store closes at 6pm Monday to Saturday and closed all day Sunday. All food and nutrition will need to be carried. There are creek crossings throughout the course to filter from. Many creeks will require dismount and carrying the bike across. On the northernmost end of the route crosses the Mountain Fork River over a low water crossing. Depending on weather and recent rains a high-water reroute may be required that will add 15 miles and just shy of 1,000 feet of elevation gain. The route is only accessible in spring, as it navigates close by many deer leases and should be avoided during hunting seasons.
Checkpoints will be located at mile 10, 38, 68, 89 and the finish. All checkpoints must be logged via QR and a photo taken to count.
This race is not for all riders. For those that are extremely adventurous, can appreciate a very challenging route and enjoy the solitude of nature this is for you.
