Join us for the 50th Annual Race for the Grasshopper 5K on Saturday, January 10, 2026, in the historic town of Gaffney, Cherokee! This year is particularly special as it coincides with our country's 250th anniversary, making it a celebration you won't want to miss. The race starts at 8:30 AM, and with a scenic course winding through the paved roads of Cowpens Battlefield, runners of all ages can enjoy the beautiful surroundings while chasing their personal bests.
Make sure to register early as this event is expected to sell out quickly! Participants can pick up their bib numbers and shirts on race day from 7:00 AM to 8:15 AM at the Cowpens Battlefield office parking lot or during early packet pick-up on Friday, January 9, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Gotta Run Spartanburg. With exciting awards for the top finishers and age group awards spanning from 14 & under to 75 & over, everyone has a chance to shine. Don’t miss out on this memorable event that combines community spirit, history, and the joy of running!

This is a special year for 2 reasons, this is the 50th Annual Race for the Grasshopper 5K as well as our country's 250th year anniversary! This is a special year for this event and we will treat it as such. Please get registered early because it will sell out. We are looking at some special medals or prizes for this years event!
At the close of the Battle of Cowpens in 1781, two American officersconfident in victoryraced for the ultimate prize, a British three-pounder cannon, called the Grasshopper.
Bib numbers and shirts can be picked up morning of the race or Friday Jan 10th from 5-7pm at Gotta Run Spartanburg.
