This exciting event will kick off at 9:00 AM with participant check-in at the historic Courthouse Square, followed by the Family Fun Run at 10:00 AM and the adrenaline-pumping 5K Zombie Run at 11:00 AM. In the Zombie Run, participants will navigate a 5K course while dodging zombies trying to snatch their flags, making for a unique and exhilarating experience. Meanwhile, the Family Fun Run offers a more relaxed pace perfect for families and friends who wish to join in the Halloween spirit, costume-clad and all!
After the races, stick around for a fantastic After Party at Courthouse Square, where you'll find delicious food from The Firetruck Catering and The Fat Cat Food Truck, along with refreshing beverages from Fonta Flora Brewery. Organiser's Description
The Rotary Club of Morganton will present their Second Annual ZOMBIE RUN 5K AND ONE MILE SPOOKY FAMILY FUN RUN on October 10, 2026 at the historic Courthouse Square in downtown Morganton, NC. The morning will start at 9:00 AM with participant check-in with the Family Fun Run (dress in your Halloween best!) starting at 10:00am and the 5K Zombie Run starting at 11:00. The run will be followed by an After Party at historic Courthouse Square with music, activities, The Firetruck Catering, LLC Food Truck & The Fat Cat Food Truck on site along with Fonta Flora Brewery. Pat Appleson Studios will be chronicling the run with pictures and will also be at our photo booth to take more pics after the run.
WHAT IS THE ZOMBIE RUN? Who wants to run just a simple 5K? In a Zombie Run, you run a 5k while avoiding the advances of the Zombies!! Runners are equipped with Velcro belts holding 3 flags and the goal is to finish the run with as many flags as you can. Zombies are stationed intermittently throughout the route where they will try to steal the runners flags. Runners receive participation medals and overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals will be awarded for those who manage to finish with the fastest times and most flags. In a world with Zombies, running fastest, out in the lead, may not be the best strategy to preserve your flags - there is something to be said for not drawing attention to yourself.
Volunteers and times will be stationed along the route; a timeclock will be located at the finish line; and volunteers will be at the finish line sorting finishers.
WHAT IS THE FAMILY FUN RUN? This run is for anyone who wants to be part of the festivities but doesnt want to run 3.1 miles or interact with Zombies. Its a great opportunity for families and friends to runor walktogether. Wearing costumes makes it even more fun.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE RUNS? There will be an after party with back at historic Courthouse Square - a fall festival atmosphere to round out the day. Two food trucks will be on site: The Firetruck Catering LLC and The Fat Cat Food Truck. Fonta Flora Brewery will be there too. There will be activities and games, music, and fun for all. Make sure to stop by our photo booth to get your friend/family portrait.
WHAT IS THE COST TO PARTICIPATE AND WHAT IS INCLUDED? Registration for the Family Fun Run is $10. Fun Run participants receive two special gifts they can collect after the run. Registration for the Zombie Run 5K starts at $30. After September 1, registration cost increases to $35. Registration costs increase again after October 1 to $40. Zombie Run t-shirts will be ordered 9/14/2026--to ensure your size, register early. All Zombie Run participants receive a medal and a separate medal is awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place male and female survivors.
WHERE DO THE PROCEEDS GO? The Rotary Club of Morganton raises funds to distribute to organizations and agencies that help the community. The funds raised through this event in 2026 will be awarded to Blue Ridge Community Action Group and Mountain Aid Project.
