Join us for the 7th Annual Flag Run 5K on Saturday, July 4th, 2026, in Boerne, Kendall! This exciting event invites runners of all ages to show their patriotism by racing with a full standard size American flag. With a goal of hosting over 500 participants this year, the Flag Run 5K has become a beloved community tradition, celebrating freedom and supporting local heroes.
Participants can look forward to a thrilling morning starting with a warm-up at 7:45 AM, followed by a one-mile walk at 8:00 AM and the main 5K run at 8:05 AM. Runners will be recognized in various categories, including awards for the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as those proudly carrying flags. Each runner will receive a commemorative t-shirt and a finisher medal, plus enjoy food, drinks, music, and aid stations throughout the event. Proceeds from this year’s race will benefit the Boerne Fire Department, contributing towards essential equipment and scholarships for local students. Celebrate Independence Day in style at the Flag Run 5K and be part of a meaningful cause while having fun!

Why do we do it?
Several years ago, my dad and his friend started a yearly run on July 4th, getting a group of people together to run throughout the town with American flags. When I ran with them I would think, Why not make a 5k out of this? That was the beginning of the Flag Run 5k, and weve been dedicated to making this race happen ever since. Within the last few years, this event was made possible through all of our helpful sponsors, racers, and the community as a whole. Last year we had over 350 runners and this year we are planning to host 500+ runners. Since 2019, $25,500 has been donated to the VFW and Boerne Fire Department. We were able to give a scholarship for $2,500 to a high school senior last year that went toward tuition at TEEX fire school. This year, the proceeds will go to the Boerne Fire Department to help with the purchase of a Wildland Paramedic Unit - UTV and another scholarship for next years senior class. These items are not always able to be paid in the departments budget. The 4th of July to me represents freedom and I want to do my part in helping those that keep us free. Camden Vicknair
