Join us for the 7th Annual Flag Run 5k on July 4th, 2026, in the beautiful town of Boerne, Kendall! This vibrant event celebrates Independence Day with a spirited run where participants are encouraged to carry full standard size American flags. Runners of all ages will have the chance to compete in a 5k race or a 1-mile walk, all while enjoying a sense of community and patriotism.
Starting at 8:05 am, participants will race through the streets, with awards given to the top finishers in both the overall categories and those proudly carrying flags. Each runner will receive a commemorative T-shirt and a finisher medal to celebrate their achievement. The day will also feature food, drinks, music, and various aid stations to keep the energy high. With over 500 participants expected this year, it’s a fantastic opportunity to come together for a great cause, as proceeds support the Boerne Fire Department and local scholarships. Why do we do it?
Several years ago, my dad and his friend started a yearly run on July 4th, getting a group of people together to run throughout the town with American flags. When I ran with them I would think, Why not make a 5k out of this? That was the beginning of the Flag Run 5k, and weve been dedicated to making this race happen ever since. Within the last few years, this event was made possible through all of our helpful sponsors, racers, and the community as a whole. Last year we had over 350 runners and this year we are planning to host 500+ runners. Since 2019, $25,500 has been donated to the VFW and Boerne Fire Department. We were able to give a scholarship for $2,500 to a high school senior last year that went toward tuition at TEEX fire school. This year, the proceeds will go to the Boerne Fire Department to help fund special programs on the department and give away scholarship money to someone that is pursuing a career in the fire service. These items are not always able to be paid in the departments budget. The 4th of July to me represents freedom and I want to do my part in helping those that keep us free.
