ON DECEMBER 31, 1992, TRAGEDY STRUCK OUR SMALL TIGHT KNIT COMMUNITY, AS ASSISTANT CHIEF ARTHUR SCHUMACHER OF THE VALLEY CITY LIVERPOOL TOWNSHIP FIRE DEPARTMENT LOST HIS LIFE DURING A WATER RESCUE. ASSISTANT CHIEF SCHUMACHER SPENT HIS ADULT LIFE SERVING OUR COMMUNITY.
To honor his service and his memory, the Valley City Firefighters Association set up a scholarship fund to help support our communitys firefighters further their education in the field of fire and EMS. Each year during our Street Fair, the Firefighters Association holds a 5K race/ 1 mile-fun run, with the proceeds of this event being set aside to support the Arthur E. Schumacher Scholarship Fund.
Like many events, this race suffered the lingering effects of the Global Pandemic and was not able to be run for several years.
