The second annual Bacon Run along the Des Moines River in Ottumwa occurs right before the big baconfest event 'BaconTown' - now in its 12th year. The 'chip-timed' Bacon Run takes you along the river on private concrete and asphalt bike path with the start/finish line just steps from Ottumwa's Bridge View Center (great for warming / bathroom/ food) Participants receive a race shirt, pound of bacon, early entry into BaconTown before the public, and $5 in Bacon Bucks to spend inside. Kids indoor carnival park, live music, and great scenery are all free. If your family comes with you to support your run - they also get early access to BaconTown and the free amenities. Participants who responded to a survey the first year rated this race 4+ stars.
