Organiser's Description
Colleens BA 5K is an annual fundraiser established in memory of Colleen Mitchel, who was born with biliary atresia (the most serious pediatric liver disease), had a liver transplant at 7 months old and died in 2013 at 19 years old from advanced liver disease, while waiting almost four years on the transplant list.
Proceeds support programs in the DC area that educate the community on the dire need for organ donors and fund groundbreaking research at the Johns Hopkins Pediatric Liver Center into the root cause of biliary atresia (BA) and improving outcomes for children living with liver disease and post-transplant.
