Get ready to dive into purpose and passion! From December 15 to December 31, swimmers from around the world will unite to take on the 5km, 10km, and 15km virtual endurance swims wherever they are.

This year, we swim for a cause that truly matters raising funds to support poor children in Vietnam. Every stroke, every kilometer, every act of kindness helps create brighter futures.

Whether youre swimming, donating, volunteering, or spreading the word every act counts. Together, our global DeadFish community and our amazing swim clubs especially across Vietnam are making waves for good.

GUIDELINES AND REGULATIONS FOR PARTICIPANTS

Each participant must complete the challenge in one uninterrupted attempt.
Participants may register for only one category: 5km, 10km, or 15km.
Swim gear: Fins and paddles are optional but not recommended if you want to push your endurance limits.
Wetsuits are recommended when the water temperature is below 76^0F (24^0C), for both pool and open water swims.
Bright swim buoy is required for open water swimming for safety and visibility.
All participants must sign a consent waiver and swim at their own risk.
Participants aged 14 and under must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.
Adhere strictly to your registered distance category to maintain fairness and the competitive spirit.
For safety, please check in via RunSignUp or notify your club leader/organizer before starting your swim.

EVENT CUT-OFF TIMES
5KM Category: 3.5 hours (from entering the water)
10KM Category: 7 hours
15KM Category: 10.5 hours
Example:
If you start swimming at 12:00 PM, you must finish by:

3:30 PM for 5KM
7:00 PM for 10KM
10:30 PM for 15KM

THE IMPORTANCE OF CUT-OFF TIMES
Cut-off times ensure:

A safe and organized event schedule.
Swimmer safety, preventing exhaustion in long-distance and open-water swims.
Accurate timing and efficient event management by club leaders.

EVENT FINISH AND TIMING CLASSIFICATIONS
DNS (Did Not Start): Registered but did not start.
DNF (Did Not Finish): Started but did not finish.
NC (Not Classified): Finished but exceeded the cut-off time.

RESULTS SUBMISSION
Results accepted: December 15 January 2 (challenge ends December 31, 2024).
Ensure your swim results are public on Strava.
Join the DeadFish Strava Group (link to be updated).
Team leaders will verify results before submitting to RunSignUp.
Independent swimmers may submit results directly to RunSignUp.
How to submit results:

5KM CATEGORY
Build a steady pace and master breathing techniques.
Swim 34 sessions/week, including intervals and endurance sets.
Add strength and flexibility training to prevent injury.
10KM CATEGORY
Focus on endurance and consistency.
Train in open water if possible.
Pay attention to nutrition and hydration during long swims.
15KM CATEGORY
Build stamina gradually over months with a mix of long steady swims and interval training.
Practice fueling during swims to maintain energy.
Acclimate to open-water conditions and practice sighting.

Practice long sets like (100 x 100) or (150 x 100) with rest intervals.

POST-SWIM RECOVERY
Cool down with gentle swimming or stretching.
Rehydrate and refuel with protein + carbs.
Rest well to recover fully.

Yes. You can switch clubs before the event starts (December 15) by contacting your club leader or sending a message to the event organizers through RunSignUp or the Facebook Group.
Once the event begins, club changes are not allowed.


Can I switch my race event (for example, from 10KM to 15KM)?
Yes, but only before the event begins.
After December 15, all entries will be locked to ensure fairness and accurate tracking.


Is it possible to change my name?
Yes. You can update your name in your RunSignUp profile settings before the event starts.
For any last-minute corrections, please contact the organizers.


watch Am I allowed to forgo wearing a watch?
We strongly encourage swimmers to use a GPS watch or tracking device for accuracy.
However, if you dont have one, you can still participate see the next question below.


Since I don't own a watch, what alternatives can I use?
If you dont have a watch, you may:

Ask a friend or clubmate to record your swim using their watch or phone.
Use a smartphone app like Strava, Garmin Connect, or MapMySwim (with a waterproof phone pouch).
Have your coach or club leader verify your distance and time manually.

What is the process for submitting my results?
All participants must submit results on RunSignUp between Dec 15 and Jan 2.
You can follow these steps:

Log in to your RunSignUp profile.
Go to Upcoming Events -> Submit Virtual Results.
Enter your time and click Submit Time.
Make sure your Strava activity is public for verification.

If I haven't completed 10km, can I still register for the 15km event?
Yes, but please consider your endurance and safety before registering for the 15KM category.
We recommend gradually building up distance and training consistently before attempting longer swims.


Will I receive a finisher shirt after the event?
Yes! All verified finishers will receive a Finisher Shirt and E-Certificate.
Shipping information will be provided after results are verified.


Is it permissible to divide the swim into different segments?
No. The DeadFish Endurance Swim is an endurance challenge.
Each participant must complete the entire distance in one continuous swim session.


Where can I seek assistance if I experience difficulties during the open water swim?
Your safety is the top priority.
If you experience difficulty:

Signal for help using your bright swim buoy.
Stay calm and float on your back if you feel tired.
Your support kayaker, spotter, or club safety team should assist you immediately.
Always swim with a buddy or team, never alone.


Am I required to make a donation?
No donations are voluntary.
However, this event raises funds for poor children in Vietnam, and every act counts even a small donation, spreading awareness, or volunteering to help!


Can I change my bib number?
Bib numbers are automatically assigned and cannot be changed once the event begins.
