Join us for the Freddy Gonzalez Legacy Run 5K on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the scenic Edinburg Municipal Park in Edinburg, Hidalgo! This uplifting event honors the memory of Lance Corporal Derek Hernandez and all the courageous individuals who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. The 5K race kicks off at 7:30 a.m., followed by a fun 1K Kids Run, making it a perfect family-friendly outing for all ages.
Participants can register for the 5K for only $25, which includes a race shirt, finisher medal, and chip timing. The Kids Run is just $10 and provides a finisher medal for our young runners. This Memorial Day weekend, come together with the community to celebrate and remember our heroes while supporting a great cause, as 100% of the event's profits will be awarded as scholarships to local high school students. In honor of Lance Corporal Derek Hernandez, 20, of Edinburg, Texas; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California; killed June 6, 2010, while supporting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
The Freddy Gonzalez Legacy 5K is more than just a raceit is a tribute to Freddy Gonzalez, Derek Hernandez, and all the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.
As we come together this Memorial Day weekend, we run not only to remember them but also to ensure their courage, sacrifice, and legacy live on in our hearts and in our community.
Join us on the route, embrace the memories, and lets run in unity to honor these heroes who gave everything for our freedom.
100% of profits will continue to be awarded to high school scholarships.
