The 5K is designed to be mostly flat with just a few gentle hills, making it accessible for all fitness levels. For those who prefer a more relaxed pace, a 1.25-mile untimed walk is also available. This leisurely option will allow you to soak in the beauty of the north portion of the George Recreational Trail while still finishing at the same line as the 5K participants. Plus, all finishers will receive a t-shirt and refreshments, making this event a perfect way to celebrate freedom and community spirit. Organiser's Description
Join us for a 5k Fun Run/Walk that shows off the Recreation trail in and around George, IA. The start and finish are located in beautiful Locker Park. Proceeds go to the improvement and maintenance of the trail system. Majority of route is on the city trail with only the first half mile on city streets. The run is on a mostly flat course with a few minor hills. Enjoy the scenery as you run on the trail through residential housing, campground, wooded area, and fields.
For those that do not want to run, we do offer a 1.25 mile (Approximate length) untimed leisurely walk. This event will start with those participating in the 5K, but will veer off and participants will then walk the north portion of the George Recreational Trail and finish at the 5k finish line. This event is for those who don't want to run/walk the entire 5K but still want to enjoy the Freedom Day Fun Run/Walk. The walk will NOT be timed but finishers will still receive a t-shirt and refreshments.
