Organiser's Description
JOIN US SATURDAY, MARCH 7, FOR THE 19TH ANNUAL HEAT THE STREETS RUN & WALK FOR WARMTH!
WHAT IS THE HEAT THE STREETS RUN & WALK FOR WARMTH?
Heat the Streets Run & Walk for Warmth offers participants the opportunity to register for a timed 5K run, timed 10K run or untimed two-mile walk. We also offer a virtual option if you're unable to join us in person.
WHY DO WE DO IT?
Since 2007, Metropolitan Utilities District and Omaha Public Power District have teamed up to host this annual event, with proceeds benefiting local utility assistance programs to help friends, family and neighbors in our communities pay their utility bills. The event is hosted in the cold winter months to bring attention to those who struggle to keep the lights on and heat their homes. However, utility assistance is a year-round need.
Funds raised are administered by Dollar Energy Fund, Inc. [https://www.dollarenergy.org/], a registered 501(c)(3), and then split between M.U.D.s Home Fund [https://www.mudomaha.com/homefund] and OPPDs Energy Assistance Program [https://www.oppd.com/residential/payment/assistance-programs/] to provide assistance to our customers living in Burt, Cass, Colfax, Dodge, Douglas, Johnson, Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee, Richardson, Sarpy, Saunders and Washington counties. All money raised is distributed through this local network.
Dollar Energy Fund's mission is to improve the quality of life for households experiencing hardships by providing utility assistance and other services that lead to self-sufficiency.
