Organiser's Description
A 4 race league comes to Central Iowa in 2024. The league was built to help grow local races while also increasing the excitement at the top of the race fields. The league is open to all runners who want to take part. Must be registered to be a part of the scoring as well as the prize money for Loop the Lake/GBM. There will be both an individual and team competition, see details below.
Individual Competition:
There will be two separate scoring leaderboards for the individual competition will start at 20 points for the first finisher overall and within the age group.
A prize package including $300 for 1st, $200 for 2nd, and $100 for 3rd will be awarded to the top 3 overall.
The same prize package minus the cash prize will be awarded to the top 3 in each age group.
Age Group Breakdown:19under20-2930-3940-4950-5960-6970
Individual scoring Continued:
3 out of 4 races will count towards your final score. If you race all 4 events, your lowest score will drop. A perfect score will be 60 points. If there is a tie, there will be a heads up comparison of the 3 best races to break the tie.
Team Competition:
The team race will be based on the team you have registered with, this can be updated but not retroactively. Anyone can be a part of a team. Top 2 runners (Male/Female) from each team will score at each event. This will be a cross country style event where the 1st place scores a 1 and 2nd gets a 2, and so on. The perfect team score for an event will be a 6. At the end of the year, the team scores will be added up and the team with the lowest score over the full 4 events will get a $1000 donation.
The four races in the league are:
Loop the Lake 8KM - April 13th, 2024 -$1200 prize purse* - Free entry to sub 26:00 - 8km (male) or sub 30:00 - 8km (female)
Grand Blue Mile - April 23rd, 2024 -$1200 prize purse* - No free entries at this time
Capital Pursuit 10 mile - September 22nd, 2024 - $1200 prize purse - Free entry to sub 55:00 - 10 miles (male) or sub 1:00 - 10 miles (female)
The Blazing 5k - October 6th, 2024 - $2600 prize purse -16:00 for elite race entry, 14:30 for free (male) or 20:00 for elite race entry, 17:30 for free entry (female)
*Prizes paid out through Wieland Racing LLC
If all 4 races are completed, runners will earn a IRRL special shirt. If runners wish to purchase a race league shirt, they will be available, but not required to join the league. $15 for the shirt, funds will go to Wieland Racing to support the series.
