Experience the breathtaking scenery of the State Park and the surrounding Michaux State Forest while supporting a worthy cause, as all proceeds benefit recreation, education, and conservation efforts in the park.
Participants in the Iron Run will embark on a challenging half-marathon, while those opting for the Charcoal Challenge can enjoy a spirited 5k run or walk. Early registration is highly encouraged, as it closes on May 15 at 5 PM, with race T-shirts guaranteed only for those who register by that date. On race day, registration opens at 6:30 AM, so be sure to arrive early! The half-marathon kicks off at 7:30 AM, followed by the 5k at 8:30 AM. Join us for a day filled with fun, fitness, and community spirit in a picturesque setting!

The annual Charcoal Challenge 5k run/walk and Iron Run half-marathon will be Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Pine Grove Furnace State Park.
These concurrent trail races are promoted by the Friends of Pine Grove Furnace for the benefit of our 501(c)(3) non-profit in Pine Grove Furnace State Park. All proceeds support recreation, education and conservation in the State Park. The race courses show off the beautiful State Park and surrounding Michaux State Forest.
Early registration online ends on May 15 at 5 PM. Note that race T-shirts are only guaranteed for registrations received by 5 PM on May 15 -- after that, the registration fee goes up and no race shirts will be available. Online registration ends June 4. After that, you can register on-site the morning of the races.
Same-day registration opens 6:30 AM on June 8. Half-marathon runners must be at the start line by 7:20 AM for the 7:30 AM start. 5k runners/walkers must be at the start line by 8:20 AM for the 8:30 AM start. Allow 5-10 minutes to get from parking to the registration area at the old stone furnace stack. Restrooms are at registration.

CLOSEDThis trail race shows off the beautiful forests and streams of Pine Grove Furnace State Park and Michaux State Forest. It is a true trail event with hills, trip hazards and a few muddy spots and minor water crossings. Registration/start/finish are at the Furnace Stack Pavilion near the Park Office at 1100 Pine Grove Road, Gardners PA (address is not actually in the town of Gardners!). For mapping, use 40.0318331, -77.305694. Participants should park at Fuller Lake lot at 1050 Pine Grove Road 40.03221, -77.30201 and allow 5 minutes to walk to registration area. Note that actual race distance is 13.4 miles. There are 4 checkpoints with drinks and snacks. We serve a light breakfast, drinks and snacks at registration. Time cut-offs: you must reach checkpoints 3 and 4 by a specified time equivalent to roughly 17 and a half minutes per mile not much faster than walking (see race map at www.FriendsofPineGrove.org for details.) -
