WARNING: Before you continue reading, be advised these events are destined to be the worst ever. Set your expectations low—very low—so that your disappointment will be minimal. We don’t promise much, and will likely provide even less.
What: Labor Day Triple Full marathon, Half marathon, 10K, 5K
When: September 7, September 8, September 9
Where: Cady Way Trail Head, 2529 Cady Way, Winter Park, FL 32792
Start Times: Marathon and Half Marathon start at 5:00. The 10K and 5K start at 6:00.
Time limit: 9 hours
Parking: In the parking lot for the Cady Way Trailhead, near the Cady Way Pool. Please do not park in the pool area. Even better—follow these GPS coordinates: N 28.59458, W -081.31670
These races are NOT for people who want a cleverly designed t-shirt or hat, great bling (actually, any bling), cute reusable race bag, spectators lining the course, crowds cheering you in, hearty food at the finish, exciting music, fancy age group awards, and a party afterward, all on a certified course. There are plenty of events out there for you.
No, these races are bare bones, low-key events for those who simply can’t survive a long holiday weekend without a triple. You get low entry fees, courses that are guaranteed not short, a cheap finisher’s medal, minimal support, and a generous time limit. But who needs that other stuff? As one of the cool kids, you know all you need is an event to run and a finish time. You know you want to sign up.
The aid station is at the start/finish of the loop course. We will provide plenty of water and Gatorade, and light snacks. This is a cupless race. Bring your own hydration device—water bottle, hydration belt/pack. Orlando is hot and humid. We will provide ice for as long as possible. Also, you will need a light for the first couple of hours.
Courses: The marathon course is twelve out-and-back laps of approximately 2.2 miles; the half marathon course is six laps. The paved, urban run/bike trail is flat and mostly shaded. This is an open course, and includes two street crossings. You are responsible for crossing safely. The 5K and 10K courses are two and four laps of approximately 1.55 miles. Turn arounds will be clearly marked. The trail runs through a residential area, so we ask that you be quiet the first few hours.
The start/finish is in a small pavilion, where you may leave a drop bag.
