Organiser's Description
The first Megan Hammerle Memorial 5K was held in May 2015 to honor the life of Megan Hammerle. Megan was a 2014 graduate of Lebanon High School and a freshman at DePauw University where she was a Science Research Fellow. Megan was a four-year member of the LHS XC and Track teams, as well as a four-year member of the Wind Ensemble, Jazz, Marching and Pep Bands.
Her friends at Lebanon High School came together to coordinate this event and raised over $10,000 the first year to benefit the Megan Suzanne Hammerle Memorial Scholarship. Megan was a smart, talented, creative and loving young woman. She was a lover of books, music, games, knitting and zentangles. She died on February 13, 2015 from a rare form of meningitis. The illness was brief and devastating, but she was covered in prayer and loved by so many family, friends and strangers.
Megan loved to run and we know continues to run with us in spirit. Since 2021 the Megan 5K has been operated by Boone County Mentoring Partnership (BCMP) and raised nearly $100,000 to support the work of engaging young people with caring and supportive adults and resources to overcome barriers.
This year BCMP is thrilled to share that the Megan Hammerle Memorial 5k Run/Walk is once again presented by RL Turner and Witham Health Services. Both have been vital in our work in the community!
