Michael W Leibowitz was always on the move. A fixture in the Charleston running community, he once participated in more than 70 races in a single year! Michael traveled across the globe for a good cause, bringing family and friends with him whenever they obliged. His motto, which he routinely shared accompanied by a photo on every trek, was IF I CAN DO IT, SO CAN YOU.
Michael was tragically killed at age 71, along with his friend Christina Chung, in an accident in July 2024. His grandchildren, children, family, and friends wish to honor his memory with this event. Why 5.12 K? In honor of Michaels birthday, May 12 - and because he revered being a little different with measurements. All proceeds from this memorial event will be donated to the Michael W Leibowitz Fund, to support the charitable causes closest to his heart. Through these efforts, Michaels generous spirit and dedication to helping others will continue to inspire and uplift those in need. This run/walk is open to all levels of athletic ability; there will be a Children's Dash at 8:30 am and then a 5.12K walk/run at 9:05 am that is not timed. There is also an opportunity to participate virtually. T-shirt sizing is unisex. -Must register by April 25th to receive desired shirt size. -
