Event summary
Get ready for the Play It Forward Winter Running Clinics, taking place from December 5th to December 19th, 2025, in the vibrant community of Durham! This exciting initiative is designed to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and community engagement among underprivileged youth in the local public school system. Open to all children aged 5-13, this free program breaks down barriers to participation in sports, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to engage in fun and healthy activities.
Throughout the two winter sessions, participants will dive into structured running clinics where they'll learn the fundamentals of running, including warm-ups, cool-downs, and pacing, while also acquiring essential life skills such as goal-setting. Each child will set a personal running goal and have the chance to participate in milestone challenges, culminating in a fantastic fundraiser race that celebrates their achievements. With a focus on inclusivity, this program will cater to diverse groups, including children with disabilities and those facing obstacles to sports participation. Join us in fostering unity and team spirit as we equip young runners with the skills they need to thrive!

Organiser's Description
Play it Forward, an inclusive initiative to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and community engagement, particularly for underprivileged youth in the Durham public school system. This free program will be accessible to all children aged 5-13, regardless of financial background, addressing the inequities of traditional pay to play sports. The program will include two winter sessions and more in the spring where children participate in a structured running clinic that teaches running basics, warm-ups and cool-downs, pacing, and essential life skills like goal-setting. Each child will set a personal running goal and participate in milestone challenges, culminating in a fundraiser race to celebrate their achievements. We aim to serve three distinct groups: underprivileged youth, children with disabilities, and those facing barriers to sports participation. We'll provide t-shirts to foster team spirit and unity. Safety and training are priorities; well will have coaching training and safety sessions for our staff and participants.
