The 5K is the heart of this event. It's what we started with and will always have. Whether you are a seasoned runner or this is your fist 5K we want this to be an awesome experience for you! A 5K is meant to be a challenge in one way or another. It is good to have goals and to do hard things! We want this to be an opportunity for God to show up for you in a way that encourages you, lifts up your soul, and ignites you to live a more full and passionate life through Jesus Christ!
Speaking of doing hard things, it's important that we do the RIGHT hard things! There are hard things that we must endure not by choice and then there are hard things (like 5K's) that we do by choice! But.....in all the hard things the WHY is so important. WHY continue getting up everyday? WHY continue until you meet the goal and finish the thing? Without a worthy WHY you are likely to quit when your desire disappears. And trust me, it always does if you do a hard thing for long enough! We ultimately believe that Jesus is the worthy reason. He lived, died, & was resurrected for us so we literally owe him our whole lives! But doing this race maybe you would like to support a good WHY. I mean if we are paying to do something hard don't we want to feel good about where that money is going? Well you can! Most of every penny of your entry fee will go directly to a local family. You may have noticed in the theme and the colors and the pictures surrounding this race, autism. Our local family is faced with this disorder daily. We would like to bless them with these proceeds to afford a wide range of needs they may have.
With that being said, I'm sure you have noticed the words, "I AM WHO I AM." Every year we have done this event I pray for a scripture. That scripture is the center of it all. Thinking of our girl, her name is Raya, and the autism, this is the scripture that I have prayerfully landed on for this year. Disorders, diseases, sickness, and all the host of brokenness we experience is a result of sin in our world. Sin is a shortcoming. It means not perfect. And as much as I want to I don't have all the answers to why does God allow this. But one thing I know........Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He is the answer, the solution, the remedy, the prescription. This scripture found in Exodus 3:14 is the response God gives to Moses when Moses asks what he should tell the Israelites when they ask him who this God is that sent him to them. This name literally means, "I exist." God has been in the business of proving His existence since the beginning of time. He does it in every generation and He does it in a very personal way. History holds account after account of these very stories that say God really does exist. And if the God of the Bible exists, it begs the question- What does that mean for us?
My prayer is that we will discover the answer! I pray we will come to understand the divine origin of our divine deliverance and the stark contrast of the 2 extreme points we all truly face- in relationship with God through His son Jesus or out of relationship with God.
