On December 5th, turn your attention to the sea...the planet's largest source of life. Participate in the Race to Save Our Oceans to celebrate the waters that shape cultures and connect us all. Scientists continue to emphasize the ocean's essential role in sustaining life: regulating climate, absorbing carbon, and supporting vast ecosystems that make Earth habitable. Across cultures and continents, communities have long acknowledged the sea's power through traditions that honor and respect its presence. For example: sea gratitude festivals in Asia, coastal water rituals in Africa, offerings to ocean deities in South America, and long-standing water traditions among the many Native American nations. But today, these ancient waters face unprecedented threats: pollution, global warming, acidification, disappearing marine life.
