Event summary
Participants will trek down into the breathtaking ravine, navigating the unique clay formations before making their way along the cold-water creek towards the iconic railroad tracks and derailed train cars. While the anticipated water levels may prevent a visit to the sandbar, the adventure continues with a scenic loop back to the rim, featuring some light climbing and rope action. This moderately difficult hike, with its elevation changes, ensures a rewarding experience, especially with the pleasant forecast of a high of 83 degrees. Donβt forget to pack plenty of water, comfortable shoes, and your favorite snacks to fuel your journey! Join us for a day of camaraderie, exploration, and a touch of environmental stewardship as we aim to leave the area cleaner than we found it. Mark your calendars for May 31st and get

The initial plan is to hike down into the ravine to explore/climb up and down the clay formations a bit, then we can travel down the cold-water, clay-lined creek toward the railroad tracks/Pearl River. We'll take the railroad tracks to the derailed traincars. Anticipated water levels due to rain indicate the Pearl will be too swollen to visit the sandbar on the river, so from here we'll loop back up to the rim via the wall climb (some light rope action).
Recommended supplies:
Plenty of water
Comfortable shoes you don't mind getting wet/dirty
Wicking clothes you don't mind getting wet/dirty (see the theme!)
Hat, natural sunscreen, natural bug repellant
Snacks/lunch
Change of clothes for the drive home
This is NOT a cleanup per se, but we always bring a few trash bags with us to remove litter, especially recyclables. This is a moderately difficult hike due to the elevation change down and back up, but the weather forecast indicates it won't be too terribly hot (high of 83 degrees), which will make it much more manageable.
