Organiser's Description
**Update, this race is now virtual, and will run through June 30th of next year**
Valhalla Running is proud to host a 10K, 5K, and 1K run in honor of SGT Joel House. 22, of Lee, Maine; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; died June 23 in Taji, Iraq, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Joel grew up hunting and fishing in the woods around his home. He played soccer, baseball and basketball in high school and was known among his friends for his guitar playing. After his military service, Joel hoped to go to school to become a game warden, said Deanna House, his mother. He also is survived by his father, Paul House.
This run promises to be an amazing route! You will start in the beautiful square of downtown Pilot Point, TX and then run through the historical part of Pilot Point leading out to some beautiful country views. The run will be primarily on back country roads with the views to back it! You will eventually find yourself by the crooked church so make sure you bring your phone! This is an amazing but challenging course. If you like to run with a co-pilot (jogger), this is a jogger friendly course as well as walker friendly.
Proceeds from the race will go to House in the Woods. It is a non-profit that was created by Joel's father, Paul. They take Gold Star Families, Wounded Warriors, and Veterans on free hunting, fishing, and camping trips in the Maine area.
