Join us for the SSGT Javier Ortiz Memorial 5K Race and Walk on Saturday, June 14th, 2025, in beautiful Rochester, Monroe. This inspiring event honors the memory of Staff Sergeant Javier Ortiz, who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. The day kicks off with registration opening at 8:00 AM at Longhouse Shelter in Seneca Park, followed by the 5K run/walk starting at 9:00 AM. Families are welcome to participate in the Children's Fun Run at 10:15 AM, with no registration required!
The race course is USATF sanctioned and will start and finish at Trout Pond, ensuring an enjoyable and accurate experience for all participants. Awards will be given to top finishers, including cash prizes for overall champions and medals for age group winners. Plus, the first 150 registered participants will receive a complimentary t-shirt! Join us for post-race refreshments, fun, and free entrance to the PRFI Festival taking place in August. All proceeds will benefit the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), supporting families of fallen heroes. BIO
Javier Ortiz Rivera was born in Cayey, PR on September 7, 1984. He moved to Rochester, NY at the age of 7 along with his family. Upon graduating high school he enrolled in the US Marine early entry program. In September of 2010 Javier was deployed on his 2nd tour to Afghanistan and 4th total in his 9 years as a Marine. He achieved a rank of Staff Sergeant and Platoon Leader. On November 16, 2010 Javier was killed by an IED roadside bomb while on foot patrol in an Afghanistan province. Javier represents all of the fallen soldiers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice defending our Freedom. Javier 26, was survived by his wife Veronica and three children, Alyssa, Andrew, and Anthony.
