For safety and to honor our permit guidelines, it is very important that ALL RACERS follow pedestrian guidelines when on course for safety. The course is OPEN to all traffic, so please stay on the left side of the road, on the shoulder going towards the turn around and then cross over to the left side on the return. We will have police support at the intersection of Maple and Amethyst, a lead biker and rolling car support. Nonetheless, THE ROADS ARE OPEN to moving traffic. Thank you!!!
DONATIONS:
LIft Up Food Bank - Non-perishable food donations will be accepted on site for Lift Up Food Bank! A bin will be located near the finish line.
Bataan Death March charitable effort: Our race will be offering a charitable contribution to this memorial. During World War II, on April 9, 1942, 75,000 United States soldiers and Filipino soldiers were surrendered to Japanese forces after months of battling in extreme-climate conditions. The U.S. soldiers were from the multiple branches of the U.S. military: Army, Army Air Corps, Navy, and Marines. Among those seized were members of the 200th Coast Artillery, New Mexico National Guard. Each year this event is held at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico and now hosts close to 10,000 participants. Marchers participate in the Bataan Memorial Death March for many reasons: personal challenge, the spirit of competition, or to foster esprit de corps in their unit. Some march in honor of a family member or a particular veteran who was in the Bataan Death March or who was taken as a prisoner of war by the Japanese in the Philippines.
Ukraine Relief Efforts: Our race director and her husband, Lisa Renee and Doug have traveled to Ukraine 5 times since the full scale invasion occurred and will be returning in February. We would like to accept donations to help with humanitarian relief right immediately (and have proper channels to send), to help the Ukrainian people endure brutal winter conditions, with limited power and water supplies.
If you are interested in bringing a donation on race day to either cause, every dollar will be allocated to the cause. You may either bring cash, write a check to Steamboat Track and Field or make a donation on the race site. Thank you!!
