Join us for a delightful day of fun and fitness at TaterFest's Couch Potato 1K/5K on Saturday, September 26, 2026, in the charming town of Mt. Jackson, Shenandoah! This unique event offers both a 5K and a 1K race, making it perfect for everyone, from seasoned runners to those who prefer a more leisurely approach. The 5K kicks off at 8 AM from Lions Park, winding its way to Town Hall, with check-in starting at 7 AM. Participants can look forward to a delicious potato bar at the finish line, alongside water stations and a goodie bag that includes Route 11 potato chips and a stylish tee shirt!
For our true couch potatoes, the 1K race starts at 1 PM, featuring a fun loop in Lions Park, right in the heart of TaterFest! Check-in for the 1K runs from 12 PM to 12:45 PM, and all participants will receive a bag of Route 11 potato chips, a $5 coupon to Melted Dreams, and a tee shirt. This untimed race will focus on fun, with awards for the best costumes! Don’t miss out on the festivities

Organiser's Description
While originally planned to be only a 5K - these couch potatoes just couldn't muster the energy! For the enjoyment of ALL levels of spud muffins, we are offering a 5k AND 1k option!
Both races will check-in at Lions Park (aka Town Park - 326 Wunder Street). A visual of the route will be available ahead of time, posted online, and physically when you check-in.
5K - The race, beginning at 8AM, will begin in Lions Park and end at the Town Hall (downtown). Check-in will be from 7-7:45AM. There will be a potato bar for the 5k runners at the finish line and water stations available. All racers will receive a bag of Route 11 potato chips, a voucher for the potato bar, and a tee shirt. Beginning at 9:30, there will be a hayride to bring you back to Lions Park (or you're welcome to walk/run back - approx. .4mi). All are welcome to stick around and enjoy TaterFest (10-5PM): live music, local farmers market, the wine/brew garden, hayrides, tractor show & MORE!
1K - For our true couch potatoes! The race, beginning at 1PM, will be made up of a loop in Lions Park (smack dab in the middle of TaterFest!). Check-in will be from 12-12:45PM. All racers will receive a bag of Route 11 potato chips, a $5 coupon to Melted Dreams, and a tee shirt. This race will be marked, but untimed, and awards will only be given for best costume!
