We invite you to be a part of our _2nd Annual_ Jerome Kirkland Sr. Cancer Awareness 5K Walk/Run & 1 MILE Walk/Fun, aka (Captains 5K), scheduled November 8th, 2025, at McCurry Park located in Fayette County. The Captains 5K celebrates our commitment to community service, health and wellness awareness.

The Thomas TJ Jefferson Foundation, Inc. (TJF), is a twenty-year-old non-profit organization comprised of members of the Theta Lambda Lambda Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

TJF is a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation established in September 2003 to raise funds for scholarships for deserving high school seniors and undergraduate students who demonstrated high academic excellence in the communities of Coweta County and Fayette County.



5K RUN/WALK REGISTRATION:

* $35 Pre-Race Registration Fee...(_SEPT. 16 THROUGH NOV. 5, 11:59PM_)
* $45 Day of Race Registration Fee
* NOTE: _Pre-Race Registration_ runs until 11:59 PM, Wednesday evening, November 5th, HOWEVER, you must register by Saturday, Oct. 18th, 11:59pm, to guarantee your T-shirt size and lock in at the reduced rate!

* Virtual participants DO receive a t-Shirt, so be sure to include an email so that we may contact you for a mailing address.



5K RACE ROUTE:
This USATF-CERTIFIED 5K COURSE begins and ends in McCurry Park . It is scenic, very fast, and a PEACHTREE ROAD RACE _QUALIFIER_! The course travels along some newly paved perimeter roads before entering the park again and winding through the paved walking/running path before finishing on a slightly-downhill path.

1 MILE RACE ROUTE:
The 1 Mile Course is completely within McCurry Park and goes out-and-back along the paved walking/running path before finishing on a slightly-downhill path.

RACE START-FINISH & RACE DAY PARKING:
Both the Start and Finish Line(s) are located in parking lot of McCurry Park located at 180 McDonough Rd., Fayetteville, GA 30214. There is plenty of parking available in the main lot, less than 100m. from BOTH the start and finish.

* 8:55 AM Pre-Race Announcements
* 9:00 AM 5K Race Start Time
* 9:45 AM 1M Race Start Time

PRE-RACE PACKET PICK-UP FOR THOSE PRE-REGISTERED:
Early race packet pickup will be held on Saturday, November 1st, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at 125 Shepperton Way, Fayetteville, GA, located at the Trilith Shipyard.



5K AWARDS:
Awards will be given to the following:
*Top 3 Overall Male and Top 3 Overall Female Winners
*Top Masters Male and Top Masters Female Winners
*Top 3 Male & Female in the following Age Categories: 10-Under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 & Over

1 MILE AWARDS:
Awards will be given to the following:
*Top 3 Overall Boys (10&U) and Top 3 Overall Girls (10&U)

WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT '_CAPTAIN KIRK,_' JEROME KIRKLAND SR.? R E A D O N . . .



Jerome J Kirkland Sr, affectionally nick named "Capt Kirk" by his brothers of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., was born in Camden NJ (May 7, 1944) and a long-time resident of Newnan GA. He was a Vietnam War combat veteran (SSgt, USA); City Councilman and Board of Education member (Plainfield NJ); Educator / Coach (Dekalb County Schools GA); Parish Council Chairman (Newnan Chapel UMC, Newnan GA) and Elder and Leader of Thrive Ministry (GO Church, Sharpsburg GA).

Jerome was the Founding Father and chartered member of the Theta Lambda Lambda (TLL) Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. that serves Coweta /Fayette counties. Jerome was the catalyst in TLL Chapter providing over $250,000 in scholarships for college bound students; sponsoring blood drives and other community health initiatives; supporting Cancer Relay for Life; establishing several mentoring programs and countless other community service initiatives.

TLL Chapter's tremendous impact on the Coweta / Fayette County community is due to Jerome's outstanding dedication and leadership. Jerome fought the good fight and succumbed to cancer (November 20, 2023). He left an endearing and enduring legacy. The men of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc, TLL Chapter proudly named the 5K run after Jerome J Kirkland Sr to honor his legacy in establishing scholarships for college bound seniors in Coweta/Fayette counties and for promoting men's health /cancer awareness and community service.
