Lace up your running shoes and join us for the Watermelon Festival 5K — a fun, family-friendly race that celebrates the best of summer. Whether you're a seasoned pavement pounder or lacing up for the very first time, this race welcomes everyone.

After crossing the finish line, cool off with fresh watermelon and celebrate alongside your community. It's more than a race — it's a summer tradition in the making.

Course Details

This is a USTAF Certified course, however this is not a strict race environment. If you would like to shoot for a fast time or just walk the course, all are welcome. The course is mostly flat bringing you through the towns main strip, Chowan University campus as well as small hills around the lake, then finishing outside of the Baptist Church. Race route/map will be uploaded onto our website.

What's Included

Upon registering you will receive a race confirmation link. Bib and shirt pickup will be available July 31st(date/time tbd) and the morning of race day August 1st starting at 6:30am.

  • Small watermelon at finish of race

How to Get There

We are located in Murfreesboro, NC which is about 40 Mins east of Roanoke Rapids on I-95, 45 mins South of Suffolk and 15 mins South of the Virginia border. The race start and finish are right next to the Murfreesboro Baptist Church.

Parking

Parking info will be emailed out before the event. The festival gathers a large crowd and there is a parade after the race at 10:00am, parking will be specific.

Location

This race is put together by the NC Watermelon Festival which occurs once a year in Murfreesboro. The race will be held on the last day of the event, August 1st, right before the parade which starts at 10:00am

FAQs

  • Can I register on race day?

    Yes, you can register on race day for an extra fee from 6:30-7:15am (subject to availability). Online registration closes on July 28th

  • Where should I park?

    Parking information will be sent via email a few days prior to the race

  • What happens if it rains?

    The race will continue as planned unless inclement weather occurs.
