Join the excitement at the 56th annual Thornton Turkey Trot, taking place on Thursday, November 28, 2024, in the charming town of Glenwood, Cook County, Illinois. As the oldest Turkey Trot in the state, this beloved event has been a Thanksgiving tradition since 1968, attracting runners of all ages to participate in a festive atmosphere. The day kicks off with packet pickup at 8:00 AM, followed by a fun-filled 1.5 Mile Kids Run for participants 8th grade and younger at 9:00 AM. The main event, a spirited Community 5K, starts at 9:30 AM, inviting seasoned runners and newcomers alike to cover a course that has seen thousands of participants over the years.
This year, the event features a thrilling High School Team competition, where teams can earn points based on the performance of just three athletes. As you race through the scenic route, remember that your participation supports a great cause—proceeds benefit the Winged Foot Foundation, which provides essential resources for student athletes in the Chicago area. Started in 1968, this race brings out the best runners in the south suburbs and has for over five for decades. Come cover the course that thousands of runners have conquered prior to their Thanksgiving festivities.
There is a High School Team competition. The team competition only requires 3 athletes from a school to be awarded team points (boys & girls, no co-ed competition)
Proceeds will benefit the Winged Foot Foundation.
The Winged Foot Foundation is a non-profit 501 C 3 charitable organization that has been created exclusively for charitable purposes. The goal of the Winged Foot Foundation is to assist student athletes in the Chicago area by offering athletic equipment and academic programs to help strengthen the educational & sports activities in their communities. http://www.wingedfootfoundation.org/
