Get ready for an exciting day of health, fitness, and community spirit at the Weequahic Park 5K Challenge Run & Walk, taking place on Sunday, March 24, 2024, in beautiful Newark, Essex. This USATF sanctioned event promises a fantastic experience as participants race along the scenic paths and roadways of Weequahic Park. With a competitive spirit in the air, a total of $3,000 in prize money will be awarded to the top finishers, including categories for men, women, and masters aged 40 and over.
Not only will you have the chance to win great prizes, but you’ll also be supporting youth programs in Essex County and Newark through our charity partner, Tree House Cares, which works to address food and essential needs insecurities in the community. Plus, don’t miss the opportunity to participate in the corporate team competition, where local businesses and organizations can form teams to compete for the title! Don't miss your chance to be part of this incredible event that celebrates health, fitness and community spirit.
the 5K will be on the roadway and scenic paths throughout and around Weequahic Park in Newark.
This will be a USATF sanctioned event, and we have applied to be a USATFNJ Grand Prix Race for 2024.
$3000 in prize money will be available as follows:
Top 4 men and women will win $500, $250, $150 and $100 each.
Top 3 masters (40+) men and women will win $250, $150 and $100 each.
Age group awards will be presented to the top 3 men and women in 5 year age groups (excluding those who receive an open or masters prize money award).
These age groups will follow the standard USATF model: 14 and under; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70-74; 75-79; 80-84; 85-89; and 90+ for men and women.
The race will benefit the youth programs of Essex County and Newark. Our charity partner is Tree House Cares, organizers of community events and programs that address food and essential needs insecurities in Essex County and across New New Jersey.
The Weequahic Park 5K Challenge also includes a corporate team competition. Police departments, fire departments and businesses can create a team at registration. Teams may have an unlimited number of entrants. The winning team will be determined by combining the times of the top 5 finishers from each team, with the lowest "top 5" time winning the Corporate Challenge.
