Organiser's Description
WALK, RUN, OR JOG...
Join us on the beautiful campus of Trane Technologies located in Davidson, NC, for a 5K along the shores of Lake Norman. If you're not local to Davidson, we still want you to participate! This family-friendly event raises awareness and funds to support of our nation's bravest warriors and their families through programs and services provided by Wounded Warrior Project (WWP).
For over 20 years, Wounded Warrior Project has been providing a variety of programs, services, and advocacy to empower veterans and their families. As the leading veterans service organization in the United States, WWP provides post-9/11 wounded, ill, and injured warriors and their families with access to mental health services, physical wellness activities, VA benefits assistance and peer support. To learn more about Wounded Warrior Project and their mission of honoring and empowering wounded warriors, please visit www.woundedwarriorproject.org [https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org].
The VA reports [https://www.mentalhealth.va.gov/suicide_prevention/docs/FSTP-Ways-Veterans-Differ-from-the-General-Population.pdf] veterans are more than twice as likely to die by suicide than non-veterans. Veterans are having to wait months to access mental health services at the VA. Although many factors contribute to suicide when protective factors are maximized and risk factors are minimized on the individual, interpersonal, community and societal levels, suicide can be prevented. The programs and services WWP offers to veterans and their families does exactly that - through mental health and career counseling, physical wellness activities, financial readiness education, VA benefits assistance, advocating and many other services.
In 2023, Team Yellow Ribbon [https://carryforward.woundedwarriorproject.org/team/teamyellowribbon] began supporting WWP's cause and held its first 5K. In 2024, we cancelled our 5K so we could focus our efforts on assisting Western North Carolina recover from Hurricane Helene. However in the last two years, Team Yellow Ribbon has raised over $17,000 and continued to raise awareness of veterans mental health services. There is more to be done. We invite you to join us as we continue this effort.
If you're unable to join us in Davidson, join our "VIRTUAL" option and walk, run, or jog in your area!
