Louisiana Highway Safety Commission
In honor of Pedestrian Safety Month, the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission is hosting our second annual 1 Million Steps 2 Safety 5K Run/Walk on October 25, 2025.
On average, a pedestrian dies every 72 minutes, and one is injured every 8 minutes in traffic crashes. In 2023, an estimated 68,244 pedestrians were injured, and 7,314 pedestrians were killed.
The purpose of this walk is to empower pedestrians with the knowledge to navigate the roads safely and to encourage all road users to share the roads responsibly.
This event will bring all road users together to celebrate Pedestrian Safety Month with us. All are welcome to participate in the run/walk. Participants that cross the finish line will receive a t-shirt and a finisher medal.
