A VIRTUAL RACE FOR INDIVIDUALS AND TEAMS SUPPORTING DEMOCRACY AWARENESS.
DEMOCRACY AWARENESS MONTH IS SEPTEMBER, BUT IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. NOVEMBER 5TH IS THE DEADLINE.
THE FIRST MARATHON RACER [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pheidippides] delivered the news of Athenian victory and rallied the citizens of Athens to sprint and man the walls. Their show of force defending the fledging democracy against the Persian Empire in 490 BC. While the Athenian Army had won the Battle of Marathon [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Marathon], the Persian Navy survived and was sailing to convince the citizens of Athens to surrender.
DEMOCRACY HAS HAD A GOOD RUN of over 2,500 years and America is close to celebrating our 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
YOU DONT HAVE TO RUN A MARATHON, just show up at the polls to demonstrate your faith in our democratic system. America isnt perfect and roughly every 50 years we AMEND the constitution to form a more perfect union- granting voting rights to eighteen-year-olds in the 1970s, to women in the 1920s, and all races in the 1870s.
WE THE PEOPLE have to lead our elected representatives to amend the constitution once again. It starts with you and your faith in our continued ability to make things better. While the politicians (and media) should tell you which amendments a candidate supports, unless you ask and show up to vote they won't bother.
THE DEMOCRACY AWARENESS PROJECT asks you to register for a last minute sprint and commit to voting. WEAR A DEMOCRACY AWARENESS STAR-SPANGLED ENDLESS RIBBON to demonstrate your patriotic faith in Americas ability to rise to any challenge and perpetuate our democratic experiment. This Race is Virtual but Centered at THE BIRTHPLACE OF OUR CONSTITUTION, which has been amended 26 times. THE FIRST AMENDMENT gave us the right to assemble, even if only to run a race. Tell us your favorite amendment and which one you'd like to see next (your free speech is also a right under the First Amendment).
Ask your candidate if they support change, and run or walk to the polls to vote!
