Taking place on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Spain Park High School in Birmingham, Shelby, this event is not just a fun run - it's a five month endurance building running/walking program for children from kindergarten through 5th grade. Participants will train over the course of five months to run the distance of a full marathon (26.2 miles) and must complete 25.2 miles in increments before race day. Although there are no official winners, the event is timed so kids can track their progress and receive a finisher's medal upon completing their final mile. Registration fees start at $25 and increase closer to the event date, so sign up early and join the fun!

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama Kids Marathon is not a Fun Run. Even though it will be fun, it is an innovative five month endurance building running/walking program designed for children kindergarten (K5) through 5th grade. Children will run the distance of a full marathon (26.2 miles) over the course of the five month program. To achieve this goal, kids must train for the last mile of their marathon by running a total of 25.2 miles in 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, 3/4 mile or 1 mile increments between September 2024 through February 2025 to qualify for race day participation. There are NO official winners, but the event is timed so your child can chart their progress from the beginning of their training in September until race day. Our motto is "if you had fun you won"!!!
Students will run in PE class and/or with a parent and keep a log sheet to track their progress. Mileage is based on adult supervision and the honor system. Each child will receive a Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama Kids Marathon Finishers Medal when he/she completes the final mile on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
