Join us for the 6th Annual Flag Run 5K on July 4th, 2025, in the charming town of Boerne, Kendall! Celebrate Independence Day in style by running with a flag and showing your patriotic spirit. This exciting event features a 5K run and a 1-mile walk, making it perfect for participants of all ages and fitness levels. Runners carrying a full standard size American flag will have the chance to win awards for the top three finishers in both male and female categories.
Every participant will receive a commemorative T-shirt and a finisher medal, along with access to food, drinks, music, and aid stations throughout the event. The Flag Run 5K not only promotes fitness and community spirit but also supports a great cause, with proceeds benefiting the Boerne Fire Department and funding scholarships for local students. Last year, over 350 runners participated, and this year we’re aiming for over 500! Don't miss out on this uplifting celebration of freedom, fitness, and community. Why do we do it?
Several years ago, my dad and his friend started a yearly run on July 4th, getting a group of people together to run throughout the town with American flags. When I ran with them I would think, Why not make a 5k out of this? That was the beginning of the Flag Run 5k, and weve been dedicated to making this race happen ever since. Within the last few years, this event was made possible through all of our helpful sponsors, racers, and the community as a whole. Last year we had over 350 runners and this year we are planning to host 500+ runners. Since 2019, $25,500 has been donated to the VFW and Boerne Fire Department. We were able to give a scholarship for $2,500 to a high school senior last year that went toward tuition at TEEX fire school. This year, the proceeds will go to the Boerne Fire Department to help with the purchase of a Wildland Paramedic Unit - UTV and another scholarship for next years senior class. These items are not always able to be paid in the departments budget. The 4th of July to me represents freedom and I want to do my part in helping those that keep us free. Camden Vicknair
