Participants will embark on a meaningful 6.8-mile pack run, led by a flag that symbolizes those we remember, ensuring that no one passes the flag as we run together in unity. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or looking to take on a virtual challenge, we welcome everyone to participate at their own pace and share their experiences on social media using #RUNFORMIKE.
For those local to Buffalo, the day culminates in a celebration of remembrance and camaraderie at Hamburg Brewing Company, where we’ll reflect on the legacy of SSG Michael H. Simpson. Funds raised will support the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation, which is dedicated to honoring all who have served in this ongoing effort. Memorial Day 2025
A memorial run to raise awareness for our Special Operations members who were killed in action since 9/11/2001. Only one rule to run with Project 33; the flag represents the fallen, and no runner will pass the flag. The flag will lead the way.
Our traditional run in-person event is a pack run of 6.8 miles at a 12 min mile pace, we promise it will be the most emotional run you have every participated in. If that distance is a bit daunting, or the pace a bit much, we encourage you to register for our virtual event. Post pictures after your run and tag us on social media (Facebook: Project 33 Memorial Foundation; Instagram: @project33memorialfoundation) and include the hashtag #RUNFORMIKE
We are truly blown away by the participation of our in-person and virtual supporters throughout the years! Our virtual runs have taken place at military bases as far north as Fort Drum, NY and as far south as Fort Rucker, AL. Participants have honored the fallen while stationed overseas in Poland, Kuwait and Iraq. The impact that this has on the honoree's family is immense, we thank you for that!
If you are local to Buffalo, we would love to see you at our in-person event which culminates for a day of remembrance and camaraderie at Hamburg Brewing Company. Virtual registration is available for out-of-town participants or for participants who would like to participate at their own pace. This Memorial Day join us and honor SSG Michael H. Simpson. Funds raised during our 2025 campaign will be donated to the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation. The Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) Memorial Foundation was formed in 2015 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation by a small group of like-minded veterans, military spouses, and supportive Americans to honor the service and sacrifice of all individuals both uniformed and non-uniformed who have contributed to global counter terrorism efforts since September 11th, 2001. A passion project close to the family, Krista Simpson Anderson serves as Gold Star Fellow for the organization. In 2017, Congress designated the Foundation as the entity authorized to plan, fund, and build a Memorial with a vision for the Memorial to be an inclusive, reverent, and apolitical place of honor for all who have served and sacrificed in the ongoing Global War on Terrorism, as well as the countless civilians, family members, and others who have supported them.

Welcome! Please be advised this is a pack run led by active duty soldiers and veterans. Group pace is approximately 12 min/mile for 6.8 miles. If you would like to make it more challenging, weighted vests are welcome (provide your own) - just follow the one rule of no runner passes the flag, as the flag represents our fallen.
