Get ready to bundle up and embrace the winter chill with the 7th Annual Backyard BRRR Virtual Challenge, taking place throughout January 2027! From January 1st to January 31st, participants in Reston, Fairfax, are invited to step outside and rack up at least 31 miles through a variety of outdoor activities. Whether you love walking, running, cycling, paddling, swimming, or even enjoying some winter sports, every mile counts in this exciting challenge.
The Backyard BRRR Virtual Challenge is designed to keep you active during the coldest month of the year, and you have the freedom to accumulate miles at your own pace—there's no limit, so feel free to log additional indoor activities too! Join as an individual or form a team of up to 10 people for a chance to win fantastic prizes across multiple categories, including the most miles logged and unique disciplines. So grab your gear, rally your friends, and get ready for a month of fun and fitness that will make winter feel a little warmer!

BRRR...it's getting cold outside...so it's time again for a fun challenge to keep us all active and getting OUTSIDE! It's time for the 7th annual Backyard BRRR Virtual Challenge!
The goal of the BACKYARD BRRR VIRTUAL CHALLENGE is to accumulate at least 31 TOTAL MILES IN 31 OUTSIDE ACTIVITIES during the month of January...and walking, running, cycling, paddling/rowing, swimming, and winter sports all count.
But...to make things more fun and encourage lots of adventuring during the month...YOU DON'T HAVE TO STOP AT 31 MILES! In fact, we track both INSIDE and OUTSIDE miles and activities. Why tracking inside and outside activities? Well, we want the challenge to inspire you to be as active as possible and log as many miles as possible from January 1st to 31st! You can participate as an INDIVIDUAL and also on a TEAM OF UP TO 10 PEOPLE. We also have a special program for CORPORATE PARTNERS [https://runsignup.com/Race/BackyardBrrrVirtualChallenge/Page-9]!
A SPECIAL PRIZE WILL BE GIVEN TO THE TOP MEN, WOMEN, AND NON-BINARY PARTICIPANTS AND TOP TEAMS FOR THE FOLLOWING ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

- Individual with the most overall total miles outside
- Individuals with the most miles in EACH of the following disciplines (walking, running, cycling, skiing, swimming, paddling/rowing)

- Individuals with the most miles OUTSIDE in EACH of the following disciplines (walking, running, cycling, and paddling/rowing)
- Team with the most overall total miles
