Organiser's Description
The Big Gay 5K is the centerpiece of Big Gay Weekenda colorful, high-energy run and walk through Barrio Viejo followed by High Heel Havoc and extended post-race programming in Armory Park. The celebration begins Friday with the Kickoff Kiki at HighWire, featuring bib pickup, drinks, sign-making and plenty of pre-race sparkle. Throughout the weekend, independently produced events across Tucson will join the Big Gay Weekend umbrella, giving locals and visitors even more ways to celebrate queer joy across the city.

It's a 3.1 mile course winds that through the colorful, historic streets of Barrio Viejo with a generous time limit, on-course entertainment, and plenty of support along the way. Take your timewe just want you to get your steps in before you get your party on. The Big Gay 5K This is the race to break out the sequins, serve your best look, be judged by a drag queen, and maybe even attempt a colorful cartwheel at the finish line. Run, walk, or proudly meander your way through the course, then grab a cocktail in the park and join the celebration back at Armory Park. -
High Heel Havoc

Ready to make some questionable footwear choices? High Heel Havoc is an approximately one-city-block dash celebrating speed, style, and the occasional wobble. Prize packages will be awarded to both the fastest finishers and the participants who best embrace the spirit of the event. All genders are welcome, participants must be 18+, and heels must have a minimum heel height of 2 inches with a maximum base width of 1/2 inch. Depending on participation, the event may be divided into several heats. Final details are still being polished, so dust off an old pair or find a fabulous new pair and get ready to strut your stuff. -
Heels & Harmonies

Join the folks behind the Big Gay 5K, Desert Voices and our friends at HighWire for Heels & Harmonies, a casual afternoon of strutting, singing and community connection. Our Glitter Goblin will lead short, beginner-friendly lessons on standing, walking and moving confidently in heelsperfect for registered High Heel Havoc participants and anyone who is simply heel-curious. Between lessons, members of Desert Voices will pop up with brief performances and information about joining Tucsons LGBTQIA+ and ally chorus. No heels, singing experience or Big Gay 5K registration required. Come practice, meet some delightful humans, grab a drink at HighWire and make an afternoon of it with lunch or a snack next door at Gibson Food Hall.
