Organiser's Description
Join us this Black History Month for our annual Umoja 5k, this year themed "Race for Reading: The Power of Black Words". We commemorate not only our past and present Black excellence but also the transformative power of literature and literacy in our journey.
Umoja, the first principle of Kwanzaa, represents unity. The principle of Umoja highlights our need to strive for and maintain unity in the Black family, community, nation, and race. Throughout the challenges, we have come together in many ways as a people to fight for social, political, and economic justice.
Let's keep the momentum! Join us in this 5k walk/run, as we also embrace the legacy of Black authors and their contributions to our culture and consciousness. We're all responsible for each other as a community, and together we can achieve greatness and exemplify Black excellence. Allies are welcome!
The "Race for Reading: The Power of Black Words" Umoja 5k LIVE event will take place on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Dockweiler State Beach. We have increased our live event capacity to 100 participants this year, so make sure to grab your ticket early!
