Event summary

Join us on Saturday, May 17, 2025, for the 4th annual Brian Reiffer Addiction Awareness 5K Run/Walk in Caledonia, Kent. This uplifting event not only promotes physical fitness but also serves as a vital platform to raise awareness about addiction and overdose. Participants will have the opportunity to run or walk 5 kilometers while supporting local agencies and families affected by addiction. Over the years, this event has brought together around 200 participants annually and raised more than $35,000 for organizations like The Kinzler Family First Foundation and Elle's Place, as well as establishing a trust for Brian's four children.

The Brian Reiffer 5K is more than just a race; it’s a celebration of sobriety, resilience, and community support. In honor of Brian Reiffer, a cherished member of the Caledonia community who tragically lost his battle with opioid addiction, we strive to educate others on the importance of awareness and resources available to those impacted by addiction. With the alarming rise of overdose cases in the U.S., your participation can help spread hope and make a difference. Together, let’s turn awareness into action on this meaningful day!

Organiser's Description

Join us May 17th for our 4th annual Brian Reiffer Addiction Awareness 5K Run/Walk.

Hosted by Max Effort Performance this 5K run/walk is a way to raise awareness related to addiction and overdose as well as raise money to support local agencies and families impacted by addiction. We have had around 200 participants each year and have raised over 35,000 to support local agencies such as The Kinzler Family First Foundation and Elle's Place as well as establishing a trust to support Brian's 4 children. We are thrilled to be able to continue our mission to raise awareness, provide resources and offer support to those impacted by addiction. As well, we hope people use our event to celebrate their sobriety!

Brian Reiffer was a well known and loved Caledonia community member. Brian lost his battle with opioid addiction in July of 2021 leaving behind 4 children, 3 sons and a daughter. As a family we have experienced first hand the trauma associated with losing a son, brother, brother-in-law and father. Going into our 4th year without Brian we continue to find ways to share information related to drug abuse and overdose as well as educate community members, friends and family on support systems available to them.

Sadly, the number of lives lost to drug use and overdose continues to rise in the United States. According to the DEA, "In 2023, more than 78.4 million fentanyl-laced fake pills and nearly 12,000 pounds of fentanyl powder were seizedequivalent to over 388.8 million lethal doses." With just 2 mg of fentanyl being a potentially deadly dose, the need for awareness and action has never been more urgent.

If this event reaches just one personone friend, one father, one daughterand offers them hope or support, then we have made a difference. We invite you to join us on May 17th as we run, walk, remember, and advocate for change.

Together, we can turn awareness into action.
