This popular road riding event welcomes cyclists of all skill levels to enjoy scenic routes along the Heritage Route 66 Multiuse Trail and through the picturesque countryside on low-trafficked roads.
Participants can choose from a variety of distances, including 20, 40, 62, and 100 miles, with new routes introduced for 2025 that will take riders east towards the Richardson Clubhouse, the main rest stop. For those seeking an adventurous twist, there’s also a gravel riding option featuring three loops of over 30 miles each, perfect for those who love the thrill of less-traveled paths. After a rewarding ride, celebrate your achievements with a delicious post-ride meal and a refreshing beverage at the Sherman Athletic Club. Join us for a day filled with camaraderie, cycling, and fun!

Mark your calendar for Saturday, September 13, 2025 for the 53rd Capital City Century (CCC)! This road riding event is brought to you by the Springfield (IL) Bicycle Club [https://spfldcycling.org/]and offers something for all levels of cyclists.
ABOUT THE RIDE
All routes start and finish at the Sherman Athletic Club, where you will head out on the Heritage Route 66 Multiuse Trail. All routes venture out into the surrounding country on low-trafficked roads.
NEW ROUTES FOR 2025
After two years of heading north, riders will head east and make their way to the Richardson Clubhouse near the town of Buffalo Hart, which will serve as the main rest stop. 20-mile riders will then return to Sherman, and 40-, 62- and 100-mile riders can select from several looped routes that will return to the rest stop. Routes will be marked and GPS files will be provided closer to the event.
WE'RE BRINGING BACK GRAVEL!!!!
Love to ride the roads "less traveled"? Choose the gravel option! Three loops of 30+- miles each will take you on some of the rougher roads in the area.
POST RIDE
Celebrate the completion of your ride with a post-ride meal. All registered riders receive a meal ticket and one beverage (choice of wine, beer or soda) from the bar at the Sherman Athletic Club.
TIMING
The Capital City Century is not a race, but all riders will be timed. All timing ends at 3PM.
MECHANICAL SUPPORT
Local bike mechanics will be available at the Sherman Athletic Club before the ride, as well as at one of the rest stops to assist with minor mechanical issues.
VOLUNTEER
There are many opportunities to volunteer at the Capital City Century. Volunteers receive a t-shirt and a comped entry into the 2026 Capital City Century.
