Join the 773d Logistics Readiness Squadron for our local Carl Anderson Ground Transportation Memorial 5K, a local adaptation of the annual memorial run traditionally hosted at Fort Leonard Wood.

This event honors the lives and service of five Ground Transportation Airmen who made the ultimate sacrifice:

A1C Carl Anderson
A1C Erick M. Barnes
A1C Zachary R. Cuddeback
SrA Ashton Goodman
SSgt Dustin W. Peters

"In June 2004, A1C Carl Anderson assigned to the 3d Logistics Readiness Squadron at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. He served at Logistics Support Area Diamondback in Mosul, Iraq as a vehicle operator/gunner with the 494th Air Expeditionary Transportation Company. On 29 August 2004, A1C Andersons unit was tasked to escort contract tractor-trailers from Mosul to Forward Operating Base Speicher when the convoy was attacked by insurgents armed with an Improvised Explosive Device. A1C Anderson was killed instantly when his M-923 gun truck was hit by shrapnel and engulfed in flames. A1C Anderson was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Valor, Purple Heart, Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Force Combat Action Medal. On 7 October 2005, the Air Force Basic Combat Convoy Course base camp located on Camp Bullis, San Antonio, Texas, was dedicated in honor of A1C Anderson and SSgt Peters when it was renamed Camp Anderson/Peters."

As Ground Transportation professionals, we remember not only their sacrifice, but the legacy they leave behind. Whether you run, jog, or walk the course, take a moment to reflect on those who came before us and the privilege of carrying on the mission they served.
