JOIN THE ACADEMY OF GENERAL DENTISTRY IN THE FIGHT AGAINST ORAL CANCER!
Be part of a movement on Sunday, April 13th, 2025 at Denver's City Park for our 5K event dedicated to raising awareness about oral cancer.
Oral cancer can affect any area of the mouth and is influenced by risk factors such as tobacco and heavy alcohol use, as well as HPV infection. Symptoms to watch for include non-healing sores, lumps, and unusual red or white patches inside the mouth. Treatment options may involve surgery, radiation, and sometimes chemotherapy. According to the American Cancer Society, the projections for 2024 indicate approximately 58,450 new cases of oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancers, leading to around 12,230 deaths.
RACE INFORMATION
PACKET PICK-UP: The race will begin at 10:00 am. Bib pick-up will be from 8:40 AM - 9:40 AM, please bring a photo ID for check-in.
TIMING & RESULTS: The race will be timed with professional chip timing. Results will be available following the race.
PARKING: Parking inside City Park is prohibited for racers, as all gates will be closed. However, you may park in the City Park lots surrounding the park, at the Zoo, or in nearby neighborhoods. It is a short walk to the start line!
SWAG: The first 100 participants to sign up will be guaranteed a commemorative t-shirt and goody bag. The top runners will receive a prize. Goody bags will be handed out at the finish line to make for a seamless day.
RAFFLE: All participants and volunteers will receive a raffle ticket for the post-race celebration! Stick around for the post-race fun!
HEAD & NECK EDUCATIONAL SCREENING: Join the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine (CUSDM) for a quick head & neck educational screening. We will have a booth set up for any participant, volunteer, or spectator to have a quick educational screening with a CUSDM student and covering licensed dentists!
