Get ready for an exhilarating day of outdoor fun at the Falling Leaves 8 Miler and 5K, taking place on Sunday, October 26, 2025, in the scenic Berkey, Lucas area! This highly acclaimed trail race, recognized as one of the top fall events by Outside Magazine, invites runners to celebrate the vibrant autumn colors with a captivating run through the stunning Secor and Wiregrass Metroparks. Participants can choose between two exciting race distances: an 8 miler (approximately 7.7 miles) and a 5K (roughly 3.3 miles), making it a perfect opportunity to set personal records in unique distances!
Both races kick off at the picturesque Secor Metropark, where runners will enjoy flat, non-technical courses that are welcoming to all abilities. The 8 miler offers a delightful route around Wiregrass Lake, while the 5K takes participants on a scenic loop of the park's all-purpose trail. With a limit of 250 participants, everyone is encouraged to register early to secure their spot and guarantee a commemorative t-shirt! Runners will also have the chance to win awards in various categories, including overall and masters for both distances, along with medals for all finish

Celebrate the fall colors and changing seasons with a trail run through Secor and Wiregrass Metroparks!! There will be two races - an 8 miler and a 5K (full disclosure...due to the need to use existing trails, the distances are actually about 7.7 and 3.3 miles. So you have the opportunity to set PR's in a new distance!!). Both races start at Secor Metropark on the all-purpose trail. Runners in the 8 miler will start adjacent to the Secor Room at Secor Park, follow the all-purpose trail counter-clockwise, connect to the Moseley Trail and follow it to Wiregrass Lake, then do a loop around the lake and return on the Moseley and all-purpose trails to the finish at the Secor Room. Runners in the 5K will run one loop of the "long version" of the Secor park all-purpose trail. Both courses are flat and non-technical. Walkers are welcome in the 5K.

The Falling Leaves event is one of four events in the Toledo Roadrunners Club Trail Series presented in partnership with Metroparks Toledo and sponsored by Second Sole . Other races in the series are the Marsh Madness 10K (Howard Marsh Metropark, June 21, 2025), Towpath Trail 10K and Half Marathon (Providence Dam Metropark, July 20, 2025) and the Oak Openings Stampede 25K and 5K (Oak Openings Metropark, September 14, 2025). Registration for these events are also available on RunSignUp.
Like last year, there is an additional $8.00 discount ($2.00 per event) if you register for all four Trail Series events at the same time. No discount will apply if you register for one now and the others later.
We are currently working with Metroparks Toledo on offering a giveaway for participants that run or walk in all four Trail Series events. This will be revealed at a later date.
Our race will work to eliminate disposable cup waste from our aid stations by using Hydrapak reusable cups. Runners will receive a Hydrapak cup at packet pickup. We will still offer disposable cups at our aid stations, but we hope that runners will use their Hydrapak cups.
