Organiser's Description
EXPLORE. DISCOVER. UNDERSTAND. ACT.
Join Friends of the Lower Olentangy Watershed (FLOW) at our inaugural Stormwater Runoff 5K. The course will take runners and walkers through Liberty Park where theyll see and learn about different stormwater management practices to reduce flooding and erosion, and allow stormwater to soak into the ground or get diverted safely into our watersheds streams and creeks that feed the Olentangy River.
SWAG FOR REGISTERED RUNNERS/WALKERS:
* Race t-shirt
* Swag bag with goodies from our sponsors + native seed packet from FLOW
STORMWATER AWARENESS WEEK
October 1-7 is Stormwater Awareness Week in Ohio, an effort to educate the public on how stormwater pollution affects our land, water, and farms, and what steps we can take to prevent it. Clean stormwater helps protect our streams, drinking water, and the health of Ohios natural resources.
FRIENDS OF THE LOWER OLENTANGY WATERSHED (FLOW)
All proceeds from this event will benefit Friends of the Lower Olentangy Watershed (FLOW) [https://www.olentangywatershed.org/], a 501(c)(3) volunteer-based nonprofit established in 1997 with a mission to keep the Olentangy River and its tributaries clean and safe for all to enjoy, through public education, volunteer activities, and coordination with local decision-makers.
Your participation (and donation) helps us continue our conservation work in the lower Olentangy watershed, a roughly 150 square mile area which includes a 32 mile stretch of the river, plus nearly 400 miles of tributaries (stream, creeks, runs, etc.) Our efforts include:
* Tree plantings
* Invasive species removal (honeysuckle, callery pear, etc.)
* Stream water quality monitoring by citizen scientists
* Pollinator garden planting/maintenance
* Litter cleanups (481 tires collected for recycling, plus over 6,000 lbs. of trash removed from the watershed in 2025 alone!)
* 3 volunteer-run tree nurseries where we grow over 2,500 native trees and bushes which we use in our restoration efforts, and also make available for free to residents of the watershed in our fall tree giveaway.
