Miss Navajo Nation 2025-26, Camille J Uentillie, Office of Miss Navajo Nation and Navajo YES are bringing you to the local hometown of Kinlichee. Kinlichee is the hometown community of Miss Navajo 2025-26, Camille J Uentillie. As part of promoting physical fitness, running is a strong teaching instilled on the Dine teachings and stories. Fluted Rocks Half and Full Marathon welcomes all participants to highlight Hozho Naashaa Dooleel, focusing on an individual's path.
In certain areas of Kinlichees landscape, theres the Navajo Sandstone that surrounds small canyons. Among those walls and on top of ridges of the canyon, there are anasazi homes built by our anasazi beings long before our arrival. Today, some of Anasazi homes still remain and are unbothered. My grandparents are Peggy Cornfield and the late Tom Cornfield. In honor of the stories she continues to share with me, one of them is how Kinlichee got its name.
A big part of my childhood memories was observing my grandparents. My late cheii retired bus driver, railroad man, spent his retirement taking care of the livestock. As grandkids, we took on different roles based on our strength and grew to understand the importance of managing our sheep, goats, cattles, and horses. My late cheii would take the sheep and goats out to certain areas of Kinlichee. He would saddle his horse Yellowdog, as grandma would prepare his breakfast and lunch, wed be watching them discuss the days outing for the sheep. When I think about my grandparents conversation, they talk about the area and how long the sheep need to be our grazing.
