Join us for the Jordan's Run Veterans' Memorial 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, July 27, 2025, in the picturesque Sag Harbor, Suffolk. This USATF-Certified 5K event is more than just a race; it's a heartfelt tribute to the brave hero, LCpl Jordan C. Haerter, who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. The scenic course takes participants through the charming streets of historic Sag Harbor Village, past significant landmarks such as Pierson High School, where Jordan graduated, and the beautiful harbor and windmill. Runners will loop over the NYS Lance Cpl. Veterans' Memorial Bridge, a tribute to Jordan's valor, and pass the marina where he once worked.
As you race, you’ll also pay respects at Oakland Cemetery, the final resting place of this courageous Marine. This event is part of the Suffolk County Veterans Run Series, and it promises to be an inspiring day filled with community spirit and remembrance. Jordan's Run Veterans' Memorial 5K Run/Walk is a USATF-Certified 5K Run
This beautiful, scenic course winds through historic Sag Harbor Village taking you past Pierson High School where Jordan graduated, past the harbor and windmill, and a loop over and back on the NYS Lance Cpl. Veterans' Memorial Bridge which was named in his honor. You'll pass a marina near the 2nd water stop, where he held a summer job, and see Oakland cemetery where our hero rests. Jordan Haerter grew up in the small village of Sag Harbor, NY, and graduated from Pierson High School in 2006. He went to Parris Island for the 12-week boot camp as a recruit in September 2006 and became a proud United States Marine on December 1st, 2006. He was assigned in fleet with 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, and deployed to Ramadi, Iraq, in March of 2008. LCpl Jordan C. Haerter, alongside Cpl. Jonathan T. Yale were guarding the checkpoint and Nasser Joint Security Station. They stopped an explosive-laden suicide tank truck from entering the compound with precision firing, the explosion taking their lives but saving the lives of 33 Marines, Iraqi policemen, and countless Iraqi civilians.
JORDAN WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 22 APRIL 2008, JUST 19 YEARS OLD.
HE WAS SAG HARBORS FIRST BATTLEFIELD LOSS SINCE WORLD WAR II. THE 2 MARINES POSTHUMOUSLY EARNED THE NAVY CROSS FOR EXTRAORDINARY HEROISM, OUR NATION'S SECOND-HIGHEST AWARD FOR VALOR IN COMBAT.
